Tufting Workshop with Bettina Willnauer
From sketch to tufted wall hanging.
Wool has texture, weight, colour. Pass it through a tufting gun, and it becomes a piece of art to take home and look at every day.
In this workshop, textile artist Bettina Willnauer guides you through the full arc of tufting: from your first sketch to a finished piece you take home. You'll work with two different tufting machines, exploring both loop and cut pile techniques, and rotate between frames with one-on-one guidance throughout. In between, you'll try your hand at punch needle, the analogue counterpart to the tufting gun, quieter and meditative in its own way.
No experience needed. Just curiosity.
What you'll make and learn
- Working with the tufting machine. You'll experiment with two techniques, loop pile and cut pile, and discover the difference a single pass can make.
- Punch needle as a practice: during tufting breaks, you'll work on a smaller punch needle piece at the table.
- Finishing and taking it home: any piece not completed during the session comes home with you too, along with guidance on how to finish it independently using a punch needle.
Your ticket includes
- One approx. 15 × 15 cm tufted wall hanging made on the tufting frame, one approx. 10 × 10 cm punch needle piece, all materials, and guidance on completing and finishing your work at home.
