Did you know...

... that vegetable tanned leather can be traced back to Ancient Egypt?

Over 5000 years ago, the first modern civilisations started using this process to preserve animal hides: they required a tough and durable material for clothing and tents, to protect them and provide shelter from the elements and harsh environment.

The process of vegetable tanning was refined and improved over the years, and perfected by the Romans. Apart from some modern technical adaptations, the process has remained virtually unchanged: Our partner tannery uses the same artisanal process to make the beautiful leather for our journals and accessories

Check out our blog post to learn more about the vegetable tanning process.

Next time you hold your grand voyageur or other leather companion, remember it's a piece of history you have in your hands!
