PRODUCTS - LEATHER

My leather doesn't look exactly like in the pictures, why is that?

At paper republic, we stand for durable and natural products. Our high-quality leather is a natural product that may show natural irregularities. These irregularities are actually wrinkles and scars that have developed on the skin surface over time. The wrinkles and scars give every leather cover its uniqueness.

The colour gradients, which can be seen on the inside of the leather, are created during the production process - during the vegetable tanning and dyeing of the leather, as well as during the subsequent splitting.

Our leather products are made by hand by our leather designers in Vienna. During this process, they undergo a constant quality check, where leather covers with large stains, scratches, and cuts on the outside of the leather are immediately sorted out.

What is the difference between the grand voyageur and le portfolio?

Special features

Our portfolio has sewn-in leather compartments in which you can store your business cards, your phone, pencils, paintbrushes or other documents.

Our grand voyageur doesn't have these compartments and is, therefore, the more minimalistic version.

 

Size

In addition to that, le portfolio is made in the standard DIN format, meaning that it is compatible with all standard DIN-A format notebooks, as well as our standard refills.

The grand voyageur is slightly smaller and is compatible with all our refills. There are some notebooks from Moleskin and Leuchtturm that should fit as well, but you will have more flexibility with a portfolio in terms of notebooks from other brands.

What refills fit into the grand voyageur?

All our [pocket] refills fit perfectly in our grand voyageur [pocket].
All our [xl] refills will fit into our grand voyageur [xl].

What refills fit into the portfolio?

All our [pocket] refills fit perfectly in our le portfolio [a6].
All our [xl] refills will fit into our le portfolio [a5].
All our [a4] refills will fit into our le portfolio [a4].

How can I use the clip pocket/card and cash holder?

With the clip pocket [xl] or [pocket] in your grand voyageur or le portfolio you won't lose time anymore looking for loose things in your pocket or bag. Your coins, cash, cards, notes, keepsakes, stamps, clips or whatever small items you carry will be at hand and easy to find.

With our card & cash holder you will be able to carry up to 6 cards, plenty of cash, business cards and extra sheets of paper. It fits perfectly in any grand voyageur [xl] next to your favourite refills and planner.

Do you offer notebooks for artists?

The drawing book, made of ultimate mixed-media paper (150 gsm), is designed to work perfectly with watercolours, pencils and markers, yet is lightweight enough (200 grams) to be taken everywhere with you.

What is the difference between the notebook and book refill?

Book refill - here
We used 120gsm creme papers for this refill. The paper is completely fountain-pen friendly, with no feathering and close to no bleed through. A traditional open bind will make sure that your book refill will always lay flat when you open it. In addition, the book refill contains 96 pages (48 sheets) and is a true lightweight - 200g.

Standard refills - here
These are staple-bound notebooks that each have 48 pages (24 sheets). The regular refills come in a set of two. The paper used is slightly thinner - 80 gsm paper.

What is the difference between the yearly planner and the timeless planner?

Weekly planner - here
The dates are already prefilled with one week stretching over each double page, you have all the space you need to plan each week in detail.

Timeless planner - here
The timeless planner can be started, paused and continued at any time during the year, because you add the dates and months yourself. The daily slots are without time specifications and with a double page for one week, you have plenty of space to keep track of your appointments.

How can I add refills?

Your leather journal comes with a ribbon set and a notebook. The ribbon set consists of two ribbons which are already attached to your leather cover - one outside to close the leather cover and one inside (two strands) to insert two
notebooks. If you would like to add a third notebook, you'd have to add another ribbon set - here is a little video so you can see how it's done.

How many refills fit into your journals and portfolios?

The grand voyageur holds up to three refills, depending on the thickness of the refills. Our portfolios can hold up even more, due to the bigger size of the leather cover.

PRODUCTS - ACCESSORIES

Do I need any extra ribbons?

Your leather journal or portfolio comes with 1x ribbon for closure and 1 x ribbon to hold 2 notebooks.

If you want to add a third notebook, you can do this by adding another ribbon set.

Can I change the colour of my ribbons?

Yes, changing the ribbons is easy - if you would like to change to a new colour or simply insert new ribbons, you can find all our ribbons here and add them to your order.

PRODUCTS - EMBOSSING

How much does the embossing cost?

Standard embossing (up to three letters) - free
Standard embossing (four letters or more) - €5

Gold embossing (up to three letters) - €2
Gold embossing (four letters or more) - €7

You can add the desired initials or a quote in the box "add embossing". The price will then be adjusted automatically.

How many letters and characters can I emboss?

Depending on the size and the color of your leather cover, we can offer up to 10 characters.

However, there are a few exceptions:

Embossings on the grand voyageur [pocket] as well as [xl] in the color red and natural are limited to 3 characters. Long embossings will lead to irregularities and, therefore, the amount of characters is limited.

Due to the sewn-in compartments, the embossing on our portfolios, porte-plume pen cases, wallets and le sleeve is also limited to a maximum of 3 characters.

PRODUCTS - CARE

How should I take care of my leather?

You can use our le baume leather wax in order to keep your leather in pristine condition. A little cream will go a long way. Feel free to repeat the process every two to three months: Apply a little cream on your leather journal and spread it evenly. Then rub it in with the polishing cloth.

In general, leather covers shouldn’t be exposed to bright light for too long. The sun, heat from the radiator and even bright indoor light can cause discoloration.

In addition, any pencil marks or spots shouldn’t be removed with soap and water, it can leave a stain on your leather cover and will leave a bigger mark on your daily companion.

I scratched my leather, what should I do now?

You can use our le baume leather cream to polish your leather, it will help smothering the scratch.

SUSTAINABILITY

Is your leather eco-friendly and certified?

paper republic stands for stunning vegetable-tanned, full-grain soft cow leather. We buy our leather directly from family-run tanneries in the heart of Tuscany (Italy) which use absolutely no chrome in the tanning process - only natural, non-chemical extracts. This ancestral tanning is a slow and artisanal process: it takes two months on average to tan and dye a cow hide. The vegetable-tanning means that the colour and texture of our leather have a natural look and develop a unique patina over time.

Is your paper eco-friendly and certified?

Regular refills
The writing paper we use in our notebooks is made in one of the best, if not the best, European paper mill in Sweden. Our paper is sourced from trees that are pulped and manufactured on site in Sweden and by a producer who adheres to the necessary Forestry Regulation (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) of replacing trees felled.

Book refills and planners
The paper for our book refills and planners is made in Austria by Pergraphica who adheres to the necessary Forestry Regulation (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) of replacing trees felled.

Do you print eco-friendly?

Yes, our printer and bookbinder in Vienna use organic ink and have several certificates: CSR-seal of approval, EU Ecolabel, Austrian Ecolabel, Print CO2 verified, PEFC, FSC, Printed in Austria.

Where do you produce your notebooks, journals and leather accessories?

We produce all our leather products in our own in-house manufacture in Vienna and we try to source our materials as locally as possible. We even produce our own packaging boxes. The papers are all certified, natural and mostly recycled papers from Austria, Germany and Sweden. The notebooks are printed and produced in Vienna and even the cows we get our leather from come from France and Switzerland.

What happens to leather leftovers?

We try to avoid leftovers wherever possible. If we have leftovers, we use them for prototypes or to produce small gifts.

You can also purchase our leather recrafting box, which consists of 10kg leather pieces from our production and which you can use in schools, workshops or for your own hobby leather crafting projects.

ORDER & PAYMENT

Can I edit or cancel my order?

Standard & Priority Shipping
Kindly contact our customer support immediately after you placed your order. Any cancellations and changes in delivery address can be made or additional products added to the order provided that you reach out to us in time before we start with the preparation process of your order.

Express Shipping
If you choose the Next Day delivery option, you cannot change your order after you have placed it.

Can I request an invoice for my order?

Our order confirmations automatically contain a PDF version of your invoice. If you are a paper republic member, you can also find a list of all your orders as well as their respective invoice for download in your member area.

Do you have to be registered to place an order?

You don’t have to be registered in order to place an order on our website.

Can the shipping and billing address be different?

Yes, the shipping and billing addresses can be different - when you finalize your order, proceed until the payment stage. Underneath our payment options in “billing address”, you can select the button “Use a different billing address”.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept payments via credit card (VISA, Mastercard and Amex), online bank transfer and PayPal.

RETURNS & EXCHANGE

Can I return my order?

We accept the return of unused, unembossed and unopened products within 15 days of purchase. Please note that the delivery charge for the original order is non-refundable. If you wish to return an order it must be done so using your own postage method and at your own cost. We strongly recommend that you use recorded delivery or obtain a certificate of posting when you return any parcel. Please contact us at wecare@paper-republic.eu to coordinate a return.

The following items are excluded from returns:
Embossed products are customised products and therefore are not available for return and are considered final sale. The same applies to any bundles or starter kits which include an embossed product: the entire bundle or starter kit are excluded from return.

It is not possible to exchange or return any individual item from within a bundle or starter kit – you can only return an entire bundle or starter kit, provided that no item is embossed, opened or used.

Can I exchange my order?

Embossed products are customised products and therefore are not available for exchange and are a final sale. The same applies to any bundles or starter kits which include an embossed product: the entire bundle or starter kit are excluded from exchange.

It is not possible to exchange any individual item from within a bundle or starter kit – you can only return and exchange an entire bundle or starter kit, provided that no item is embossed, opened or used.

How will I be refunded?

Reimbursement of funds will be allocated back to the original form of payment used for purchase.

How many days do I have to request a return?

We accept the return of unused, unembossed and unopened products within 15 days of purchase.

Can I return a customised product?

You cannot return a customised product such as an embossed journal, as these are final sale.

SHIPPING

What are the shipping times and costs?

We offer three different shipping rates depending on how fast you want your paper republic order to arrive at your doorstep. The quickest one is sending your order with Express delivery, delivering your parcel in 1-2 business days, (€9,90), we also offer Priority shipping which takes up to 5 business days (€6,90) as well as Standard shipping up to 10 business days (€3,60).

How long does it take to ship my order?

If you order with Next Day Delivery before 12am Vienna time, we will prepare and ship your order the same day. All other orders will be prepared and shipped the following business day.

Do you ship to any country worldwide?

We ship worldwide. You can find out more about our shipping rates and shipping times here. If you live outside the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, the UK, US or Canada, you can choose Priority shipping and will receive your paper republic companion within 6 to 10 days depending on your location. We do not know the exact date for each country in advance. If your country is not available at checkout, please contact us at wecare@paper-republic.eu regarding your order.

Will I have to pay extra custom fees if I live outside the EU?

We ensure all custom duties and extra VAT are already paid, so you will never have to worry about extra import fees or taxes, no matter what country in the world you live in.

Are the discounts valid on all products?

When you subscribe to our newsletter, you receive a welcome discount that will deduct 20% off your first journal & refill and eligible items in your first order. Some products may not be discounted (examples include, but are not limited to, portfolios, pens, leather wallets, macbook cases, l'atelier and any custom or made to order products) as a lot of time and work goes into the complex production of certain products and are there excluded from our discounts.

By becoming a member, you will also receive 20% off all refills whenever you order, as well as new and exclusive offers every month.

How do I become a paper republic member?

By creating and activating an account on our website (here) you can unlock a whole range of discounts, special offers and limited leather editions which we specially reserve for our members.

Is your members’ club free?

Yes, our members’ club is free.

How long is the gift voucher valid?

Can I order your products in large quantities?

You can! Please contact us with your request at wecare@paper-republic.eu.

Can I get my company’s logo embossed?

We offer customised editions including a logo embossing on the front of the leather journal - minimum order quantity is 10 items.

How can I place a VAT-free order?

Kindly contact our customer support (wecare@paper-republic.eu) with a list of all the products you would like to buy, your VAT number and company’s address. We will create a VAT-free order for you and send you the link for the payment in a separate email.

My order is not VAT-free
Paid order, not prepared and shipped
If your order is paid but not shipped yet, we can, in some cases, cancel and refund the existing order. We will then create a new order without VAT.

Paid order, already prepared but not shipped
Unfortunately, if your order is already in the preparation process we cannot offer to hold the process anymore as it will hold up the preparation process of all orders.

Paid and shipped order
It is not possible to change the invoice for an existing order that has already been shipped. You can claim the VAT back via the VAT office of your country.
