For almost a decade, paper republic journals have had a trusted and steady presence on Topdrawer shelves across the United States. The partnership grew over the years, placing our leather journals into the hands of those who recognise something made to last. This May, we are stepping out from behind the shelves. And we are arriving in style.
We are proud to announce that two Topdrawer locations, one in New York and one in Los Angeles, are becoming the first permanent paper republic embassies in the United States. And to mark the occasion, members of the paper republic team will travel from Vienna to be there in person: one week in New York, one week in Los Angeles. It has been a long time in the making, and we could not think of a better reason to celebrate.
We are packing carefully for this one. Two cities, two weeks, one suitcase from Vienna full of surprises we cannot wait to share, that you will no longer find in store once our team flies back to Europe. But there will be more than that: the chance to be among the first to explore the whole paper republic collection and pick your favourite piece, private morning sessions for those who want a quieter, more dedicated time with the team, conversations with our lovely colleagues, and that unique feeling of being there when something begins.
The new embassies are here to stay, but these two weeks are a once-only affair: don’t miss your chance to say “I was here”.

Our new homes in New York and Los Angeles
For the first time in the US, the complete paper republic collection will be permanently available in one dedicated space: every format, colour and finish, all in one place to hold, compare, and take your time with. If there is a piece you have been waiting to put your hands on, this is your moment to come first and get a proper feel for it. Personalisation services, including embossing, ribbon change, and journal set-up, will be on hand throughout the tour and beyond. When the paper republic team travels home, the Topdrawer staff will be there to carry the same experience forward, with the same care and the same depth of knowledge, for every customer who walks through the door.
Across all other Topdrawer locations in the United States, a curated selection of paper republic products will, of course, continue to be available.

Meet our minds and hands
Our team will make its first stop in New York, at Topdrawer SoHo, from May 14 to 20, before continuing to Los Angeles, where we will be at Topdrawer Larchmont from May 21 to 27.
Ranee, Claire, Paul, Erin, Rosalie, and both our Yvonnes will be in store, carrying years of knowledge about every format, leather, and every small decision that goes into making a paper republic journal feel like it was made for you. They will take the time to walk you through the collection and answer every question you might have, from which paper weight works best with your fountain pen, to why vegetable-tanned leather smells that good, to which journal shade best matches your aura colour (we do not judge). Come with a list or come with nothing at all: there is no rush and no obligation to leave with anything other than a good reason to come back.
A relationship ten years in the making
When paper republic and Topdrawer first came together, roughly ten years ago, Topdrawer was still a smaller, but already distinctive presence in the American market: five stores, each one dedicated to the kind of analogue, carefully considered objects that most retail had long stopped making room for. The fit was natural. Both brands shared a belief that the things you use every day deserve to be made well, chosen with intention, and built to last.
Over the following years, the relationship grew steadily, as Topdrawer expanded to fifteen locations across the United States, each one becoming a place where paper republic found a natural home. What began as a simple retail partnership gradually turned into something closer to a genuine friendship, shaped by a shared sensibility and the conviction that slowing down to choose the right notebook is never a waste of time. It is that conviction that made the step toward an official embassy feel not like a leap, but like a natural next chapter.

Why an [embassy]
Words matter to us. An embassy is not a shelf space or a branded corner, but a place where the full world of paper republic can be experienced with the same level of care and attention we give in la maison, our store in Vienna. This means being able to sit with the collection, spend time with each format, get a real sense of the materials, and be guided by someone who knows every detail behind what you are holding. That is what our Paris embassy at Papeterie Perjac offers already, and what both Topdrawer locations will carry forward, permanently. Those two weeks in May are a chance to experience all of this firsthand.

Private morning sessions are available each day between 08:00 and 11:00 for those who want more time with the team, a quieter setting, and first access to what we are bringing from Vienna. Each session lasts 30 minutes. Places are limited and booking in advance is strongly recommended. The rest of the day remains open for walk-ins as usual.
